Wiener Plätzchen

These buttery and tender Viennese cookies melt in your mouth, evoking cherished memories of childhood baking.

  • Total Time: 27 minutes
  • Yield: 24 cookies 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 250 g Maismehl
  • 150 g Weizenmehl
  • 80 g ungesalzene Butter, zimmerwarm
  • 1 Prise Vanille
  • 1 Prise Zitronenabrieb
  • 1 Teelöffel Backpulver

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (356°F).
  2. Mix the corn flour and all-purpose flour in a large bowl.
  3. Add the soft, unsalted butter and knead everything with your hands until a smooth dough forms.
  4. Roll small balls from the dough, place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and lightly flatten them.
  5. Bake the cookies for about 10-12 minutes until they are golden yellow.
  6. Let them cool briefly after baking and enjoy them plain or with powdered sugar.

Notes

Use room temperature butter for a smooth dough. Don’t over-knead to keep cookies tender.
